1.1 THE ENTREPRENEUR HAS
NO CLOTHES
"It's very, very important not to develop a product naked,"
cautioned Updata's Tim Meyers at this morning's Coffee & DoughNets.
Say what? It means you need the cover of customer involvement and
guidance if you expect to understand and meet your market. As Core
Capital's Jonathan Silver put it, "There is only one way I know to
validate a market, and that's whether someone says that they will
buy your product." The two were joined by serial entrepreneur Paul
Finke, ObjectVideo's Clara Conti, moderator Andrew Sherman, and
Netpreneur's own Mario Morino to offer tips, techniques, warnings
and war stories about, "Sizing And Validating Market
Opportunities."
The summary article is now available at the Netpreneur site, and
look for the transcript and video next week.

4.1 A COMING REBOUND FOR TELECOM?
The telecom industry's slump isn't yet over, but it's near bottom
and it is time to plan for an upswing early next year according to a
new report from Telecommunications & Technologies International
entitled "World Network Equipment Industry Recovery 2002-2003."
The
study describes how telecom service providers and equipment
suppliers are cutting debt, shedding costs, and homing in on new
revenue streams, although it says to expect further shakeout,
bankruptcies, and consolidation on the way to the turnaround. Senior
telecom executives from 39 companies in 20 countries were
interviewed for the report, as well as industry observers,
government regulators, and policy officials. Among the highlights:
Capital expenditure budgets will level off or even increase slightly
in 2003, based on 21 companies' budget projections, as firms move
more quickly toward integrated voice and data IP networks, more
widespread broadband access, and rollout of 3G wireless.
