2.1 LOGIXML'S APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT PRODUCTS
(McLean, VA) LogiXML, the creator of an application infrastructure
platform for building data-centric Web applications, launched a new
venture, LGX Solutions, which will market a suite of products to
support developers. Several integrated modular components are
included, such as LGX Issues for issue tracking and LGX Time for
time management. All are XML-based and customizable, with role-based
security that allows different users different levels of access.
2.2 MERIDIAN'S SCORM CONTENT MANAGER
(Chantilly, VA) Meridian Knowledge Solutions released SCORM Content
Manager, a Web-based utility that streamlines integration of SCORM
conformant eLearning courseware and creates a repository of reusable
content resources from which new courses can be built. SCORM
(Shareable Content Object Reference Model) standards were
established by Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL), the
public/private eLearning arm of the Department of Defense, the
single largest purchaser of online courseware and training. Users of
the product can include SCORM content from any off-the-shelf or
custom courseware library.
2.3 SERVICEBENCH'S DISPATCHING SYSTEM
(Fairfax, VA) ServiceBench launched DispatchCenter, a product that
enables manufacturers to centralize and automate their management of
service delivery events. It can be integrated with internal systems
dispatching data directly from call centers or customers can use the
Web-based interface to initiate and manage service delivery events.
Users can monitor dispatch queues, track availability of service
resources, accept dispatches, acquire authorizations, and report the
status and resolution of all events.
2.4 ROUND-UP: QUICK HITS
(Herndon, VA) Exostar introduced Version 5.0 of SourcePass, its
solution for conducting eSourcing transactions in the aerospace and
defense industry. The new release supports eRFXs, including
electronic requests for quotes.
(Alexandria, VA) Digital Paper released
Version 5.1 of its
DigitalPaper Wireless solution that lets mobile workers view and
annotate engineering drawings and other documents from a wireless PC
or PDA. Enhancements include automatic sensing of device type and
browser version to dynamically change document views and page

3.1 DOUGH RAISE ME
$400K in a first round for Chantilly-based EyeTel Imaging, a
developer of medical devices. The money comes from Vienna, VA-based
Monumental Venture Partners. EyeTel's DigiScope product detects
blindness associated with diabetes.
$500K for Herndon-based Ikimbo, an add-on to its recent Series D
round. The money comes from Draper Atlantic, MRW, Steve Walker &
Associates, Schoffstall Ventures, and two unnamed individual
investors. Ikimbo is a provider of real-time communication
applications for the enterprise, including instant messaging.
$2.8 million in a Series B round for
Reston-based Webversa, a
provider of integration software that enables alerting and access to
any enterprise application and data from a telephone using voice
commands. The Redleaf Group led the round, with participation by
Intel Capital and RBC Capital Markets, as well as Webversa's
management team. The company has raised over $9 million in equity
financing in the last two years.
$9 million for Vienna-based Foxcom Wireless, a
in-building wireless communication solutions. The round was led by
Momentum Management, with participation by Eurofund, Discount
Capital Markets, Israel Seed Partners, Genesis, and Apax Partners.
Foxcom designs, manufactures, and markets fiber optic RF
communication solutions for the wireless industry.
3.2 LIFE IN THE FOOD CHAIN
-- Symantec Acquires Riptech
(Alexandria, VA) Cupertino, CA-based Symantec announced three
acquisitions of security firms, including the purchase of
Alexandria-based Riptech for approximately $145 million in cash.
Symantec says that together, the two combined companies monitor and
manage the largest number of security devices across the broadest
array of solutions. Riptech currently provides security monitoring
and management for more than 500 customers in 30 countries including
55 of the Fortune 500. The deal is expected to close next month.
Symantec's other two acquisitions were Recourse Technologies and
SecurityFocus, both developers of threat management solutions based
-- TrueCareers Acquires CareerCity
(Reston, VA) TrueCareers, a job board subsidiary of Sallie Mae,
acquired CareerCity, a job board targeting the college-educated
audience. Job candidates using CareerCity will be redirected to
TrueCareers, which will incorporate CareerCity's job-related
content. TrueCareers provides hiring companies with a manageable way
to recruit candidates online using Sallie Mae's database of seven
million student loan borrowers.

4.1 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE
Professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 are invited to apply to
be members of a Group Study Exchange (GSE) team which will travel
abroad as guests of the Rotary. The GSE program provides vocational,
educational, and cultural opportunities for its members as they tour
and make contacts within their professional fields. Rotary
International plans two GSEs for 2002-2003. The first team will
travel to India between January 7 and February 7, and applicants
will be from the single vocation of "Information Technology."
Applications are due August 3, 2002. The second team will travel to
Venezuela from March 8 to April 8, and members may come from any
vocational field. Applications for Venezuela are due no later than
