1. MAY THE (SALES) FORCE BE WITH YOU
Gina Dubbe started off as an engineer before moving her career
(as she puts it) to "the dark side," sales. She's now Managing
Partner of venture capital firm Walker Ventures, and what she
learned in her conversion is that, "Nothing will replace
nose-to-nose, belly-to-belly, toe-to-toe selling. When you go out
to find funding or build your business, never lose sight of the
fact that sales is the underpinning of your success." Three CEOs
joined Gina at Coffee & DoughNets this morning to explain why,
including Elliott Frutkin of Doceus, Richard Kay of OTG Software,
and John Ticer of BioNetrix. (BTW, both Elliott and John also
started out as techies). The summary article is available now at
the Netpreneur site, and look for the transcript and video next
week.

2. EVERY AUTHOR NEEDS A PARTY
Local venture funding leaders John May and Cal Simmons, founders
of The Dinner Club and other investing groups, are now the
authors of a new book as well, "Every Business Needs an Angel."
Written for both angel investors and entrepreneurs, it describes
angel investing in the Greater Washington area and beyond. Guy
Kawasaki said of it, "This is the real deal on angel investing."
On Tuesday, October 9, 6:00 p.m., at the Conference Center at
11600 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston, Netpreneur, the Dingman
Center and Virginia's CIT are hosting a special reception where
you can hear from and meet the authors who will talk about the
book and answer your questions. Seats are limited and priority
will be given to entrepreneurs, so register now.
