(Silver Spring, MD) OPTIMUS debuted Michaels Mobile Light, a version
of its Michaels Fire and EMS, a wireless communications system for
highly mobile emergency personnel, such as those on bicycles,
horseback, or foot. It provides immediate, uniform access to
assessment, triage and reporting data needed to mitigate and respond
to emergency situations and helps to break down communication and
coordination barriers. Using a ruggedized pocket PC, first
responders can collect patient and field data to share immediately
with headquarters and other emergency staff. In addition, the system
automatically senses and connects to other Michaels systems in near

(Rockville, MD) Vuwa Information Services introduced CaseViewer, a
Web-based due diligence tool that integrates news of litigation and
regulatory agency sanctions against businesses engaged in
unfair/unsafe/illegal business practices. Original content, updated
several times a day, is obtained from public sources such as US
regulatory agencies, including the SEC, OSHA, EEOC, FTC, Justice,
EPA, and others. Automated and manual editorial processes are
employed to find, integrate, categorize, and present the information
in a user-friendly format. Vuwa plans to build out the service to
include up to five years of searchable news and articles and to add
increased search functionality.

(Washington, DC)  Psynapse Technologies introduced its Checkmate
Intrusion Protection System, a computer network security device that
combines behavioral and computer techniques to proactively detect
and defeat network attacks and theft. It has the ability to detect
new and unknown attack patterns "on the fly" and an intelligent
behavioral assessment engine that assesses network users' intent in
real time, significantly reducing false positives.


(Chantilly, VA) Plesk introduced Language Packs for its Plesk Server
Administrator automated Web hosting product. Available in Spanish,
German, and Russian, the Language Packs provide full translation
capabilities to expand the international opportunities for hosting

(Roanoke, VA) InfiSoft Software released Version 2.0 of its
PowerFlex flexible spending account software.

(Baltimore, MD) Planit created the website for the Babe Ruth
Birthplace & Museum.

(Fairfax, VA) PromiseMark announced the inclusion of Bucharest,
Romania-based SOFTWIN's BitDefender Professional anti-virus product
in certain of its Internet Protection Plans.

-- Ikimbo Acquires Sussex Systems
(Herndon, VA) Ikimbo has acquired Gaithersburg-based Sussex Systems,
a software application development and consulting firm. Sussex will
become Ikimbo's professional services group, expanding the company's
ability to deploy its real-time technology solutions to enterprise
customers. Sussex has experience with the implementation and
customization of IBM's real-time collaboration tool, Lotus Sametime.
A Sametime version of Ikimbo's flagship product, AGENDA, is in
development and will be introduced in January.

-- H-Quotient Acquires Intelliservices
(Vienna, VA) H-Quotient, a developer of software systems for
improving the delivery of healthcare, announced the acquisition of
Fort Mill, SC-based, Intelliservices. IntelliServices offers a
Web-based platform for a suite of healthcare applications that
includes IntelliPhysician for medical practice management,
IntelliHeart for managing cardiology care patients, and IntelliSight
for ophthalmology processes. H-Quotient's products include
LabQuotient, a relational database for medical test ordering, and
DataQual and DataQuotient for planning quality improvement

-- TEOCO Acquires Respond Networks
(Fairfax, VA) TEOCO announced that it has acquired Respond Networks,
a provider of lead management solutions that help local businesses
connect with buyers. Respond will continue to develop and market its
products under the Respond Networks brand name as one of four
operating divisions of TEOCO. Respond's solutions enable directory
publishers, associations, and portals to create private-labeled
services that connect small businesses with purchase-ready buyers
from their customer base or from Respond's network. TEOCO is a
provider of business solutions, including Telecom Solutions and Web
& Wireless Solutions.

-- CSC To Acquire DynCorp
(Reston, VA) More consolidation among the systems integrators. El
Segundo, CA-based Computer Sciences Corporation will acquire
Reston-based DynCorp in a transaction valued at approximately $950
million. CSC expects to conclude the transaction during the first
calendar quarter of 2003. CSC says that the deal significantly
strengthens its position in the federal marketplace, augmenting its
capabilities to support the new Homeland Security Department. With
revenues of $2.3 billion and 23,000 technology employees, DynCorp is
among the largest employee-owned IT and outsourcing firms in the US.
DynCorp will become part of CSC's Federal Sector unit, which
currently has approximately 15,000 employees and is headquartered in
Falls Church, VA.

(Washington, DC) Fourteen scientific and technical information
organizations from 10 major science agencies have collaborated to
create, a website about science and technology from
across federal government organizations. Users can find over a
thousand government information resources about science, including
technical reports, journal citations, databases, federal websites,
and fact sheets.  The information is all free, and no registration
is required. Participating agencies are the Departments of
Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human
Services, Interior; the EPA; NASA; and the NSF.

(Bethesda, MD) VC firm Novak Biddle Venture Partners promoted two
principals to partners. Andrea Kaufman and Philip Bronner have
served as advisors and managers of a number of the firm's portfolio
companies. Both join as partners in Novak Biddle Venture Partners
Fund III, a $125 million private equity fund that targets
communications, wireless, networking, and software companies.
